Recommendations for Keeping MapMy Running in the Background
It is our recommendation when using our mobile app to disable all power-saving modes, battery optimizations, and settings that automatically put apps to sleep. Mobile phones may attempt to reduce battery consumption when the screen is off. This includes pausing apps that are running and pausing GPS hardware.
To obtain the highest quality workout tracking data, your mobile phone must be prevented from pausing or terminating the mobile app while workout tracking is in progress. While these settings may be the default settings for apps on your phone, workout tracking is a special case that many phone manufacturers do not properly consider. Please review the tips below to select the best settings to maximize app performance:

Samsung (Galaxy series) - Android 12 and greater
- On your mobile phone, locate and tap on the “Settings” app.
- Tap on the “Battery and device care” section. (On Android 15 and greater, you may be able to skip this step and tap directly on the "Battery" section)
- Tap on the “Battery” section.
- Tap on the “Background usage limits” section.
- Tap on the “Never sleeping apps” section.
- Tap on the + icon in the top right.
- Locate “MapMyRun”, “MapMyFitness”, “MapMyWalk” or “MapMyRide”, then check the checkbox.
- Tap the “Add” button.

Samsung (Galaxy series) - Android 11 and lower
- On your mobile phone, locate and tap on the “Settings” app.
- Tap on the “Device care” or “Device maintenance” section,
- Tap on the “Battery” icon.
- Tap on the “App power management” section.
- Tap on the “Apps that won’t be put to sleep” section.
- Tap on the + icon in the top right.
- Locate “MapMyRun”, “MapMyFitness”, “MapMyWalk” or “MapMyRide”, then check the checkbox.
- Tap the “Add” button.

Google (Pixel 5, Pixel 6, and others)
- On your mobile phone, locate and tap on the “Settings” app.
- Tap on the “Apps” or “Applications” section.
- If the app is not in the “Recently opened apps” list, tap “See all apps".
- Scroll down, locate and tap on “MapMyRun”, “MapMyFitness”, “MapMyWalk” or “MapMyRide”.
- Tap on the “Battery” section.
- Ensure "Allow Background Usage" is toggled on, then tap the "Allow Background Usage" label to reveal additional options.
- Ensure the “Unrestricted” option is selected.

Huawei (P20 Pro, P30 Lite, P30 Pro, and others)

Disable automatic app management
- Open "Settings" and tap "Battery".
- Tap "App launch".
- Locate "MapMyRun", "MapMyFitness", "MapMyWalk" or "MapMyRide".
- Tap the toggle to disable automatic management. A "Manage manually option" will appear.
- Ensure "Auto-launch", "Secondary launch", and "Run in background" are all enabled.

Disable battery optimization
- Open "Settings" and tap "Apps".
- Tap "Apps" again, then tap the three vertical dots icon in the top right.
- Tap "Special access", then tap "Battery optimization".
- If the list shows "Not allowed", tap it and select "All apps".
- Find "MapMyRun", "MapMyFitness", "MapMyWalk" or "MapMyRide" and tap it.
- Select "Don't allow" (this may drain your battery more quickly).
